Hand Engraving is Better.

Here's Why.
Longevity.
Engraving by hand allows the craftsman to control their cuts. A deeper cut means that the engraving can last for generations. Some engraving such as diamond drag pantographs can wear away very quickly, within a few years,  especially after a few times being polished. On the other hand, no pun intended, a hand engraver also has the ability to cut lines MORE delicate than a machine if necessary!

Creativity.
Most machine engravers rely on premade templates and computer programs for letters and images meaning you have limited options for fonts and symbols. A hand engraver is a real artist with unlimited design capability so your designs and fonts aren't limited to whatever template is availiable.

Versatility.
A good hand engraver is a true craftsman. They will have metalsmithing skills that any machine or laser engraver will not be able to offer. Stone setting, metal inlay, sculpting, and sometimes fabrication and repair. Often times, even jewelry shops can't offer true skills like inside the ring engraving which they often do with a diamond drag.
